FAQs

In this section we answer the mostly commonly asked questions by adults.

What is the Butterwick Apprentice?
The Butterwick Apprentice is a challenge that Butterwick House Children's Hospice is inviting businesses and other organizations to enter. It will both challenge them and raise much-needed funds for the Children's Hospice. Teams will be given £50 and three months and asked to double, triple their money or more.

What should a team do with the £50?
That's completely up to you! The challenge is to use your creativity and innovation to raise as much money as you possibly can in return for the initial £50 investment. So long as it's ethical and legal it's fine. We can use our extensive fundraising experience to advise you if you become a little stuck - we'll always be able to help.

Who can enter the challenge?
Any team can enter the challenge, please visit the Application page or contact Damon Millar on 01642 628 930 or e-mail.

What are the team sizes?
There are no specific requirements in terms of team size and in practice this will depend upon the number of interested people in your business or organization. It would make sense for existing work colleagues who already work in a team to enter in this format. For bigger teams these may be split if you wish or teams of friends may enter. The choice really is yours.

How much time will the challenge take?
You will have three months from your start date to take the challenge.

What support will participating teams receive?
The support mechanism will be flexible to accommodate the nature of the challenge itself. The Butterwick fundraising team will always be available to help and support you. If you have any concerns or questions, please don't hesitate to contact us.

What happens at the end of the challenge?
Once teams have completed the challenge, all participating teams will receive a certificate recognising their achievements and contribution to the Butterwick House Children's Hospice.

What is the Butterwick House Children's Hospice?
Butterwick House Children's Hospice cares for children with life limiting illnesses from across the North East of England, offering a very homely and friendly environment to both the children and their loved ones. The Hospice is staffed by a brilliant team of professionals and volunteers who are entirely focused on enhancing young lives and supporting children's families through all the ups and downs involved in caring for a child with a life limiting illness.

What communities does the Butterwick House Children's Hospice serve?
We serve the communities of Teesside, County Durham, Wearside and North Yorkshire.

Where does the money from the challenge go?
The monies generated during the challenge will be donated to Butterwick House Children's Hospice to support its valuable work.

Why does the Butterwick House Children's Hospice need donations?
It costs approximately £800,000 every year to operate the Children's Hospice. All services are provided completely free of charge and the vast majority of our funding comes from the help and generosity of local people and businesses. Without this support we simply could not exist.

Why should I take part?
There are many reasons to take part! The challenge is great for your business's employees, providing an ideal opportunity to develop team building and working while helping a good cause. You'll be developing key business skills that will benefit you and your team in the workplace.

The scheme provides an ideal networking channel with other participating schemes and will raise your profile in the local community by being associated with a flagship local charity.

What's more, we want you to have as much fun as you possibly can while taking the challenge. You can also take a sense of satisfaction that you are helping children with life-limiting illnesses.

How do I enter a team(s)?
